Kim Lân - Vietnamese famous writter

Kim Lân is a Vietnamese writter, who was born on 01 August 1921 and passed away on 20 July 2007. His real name is Nguyễn Văn Tài, he was also the father of two famous artis Thành Chương and Nguyễn Thị Hiền. He came from  Phù Lưu village, Tân Hồng commune, Tiên Sơn distric, Bắc Ninh province. He was aslo a founder-memeber of the Vietnamese Writer Association.
Kim Lân only finished the primary program and went to work right after that because of his family's finacial problems. He started writting short stories since 1941. His works have been posted in two newspapers called: Tiểu thuyết thứ bảy (Saturday's short stories) and Trung Bắc chú nhật (Middle North' sunday). Some stories like Vợ nhặt, Đứa con người vợ lẽ, Đứa con người cô đầu, Cô Vịa,... are mainly autobiographies but still show the dreary atmostphere of the Vietnamese countryside and the hardy life of the Vietnamese farmers at that time.

He was having more attention from the public when writting with a unique theme: the countryside's cultural activities (wrestling, chiken fighting,...). Few stories like Đôi chim thành, Con mã mái, Chó săn,... have reminded in a vividly way those activities and shows the inner beauty of the farmers before the August Revolution (Cách mạng tháng Tám), who lived hardly but always confident, enjoy the life and really talented.

After the August Revolution, he still contined writting (both stories and newspapers). He still focus on one topic- the Vietnamese countryside- the reallity that he have knew deeply. The main works at that time: Nên vợ nên chồng (Become husband and wife, short story- 1955), Con chó xấu xí (The ugly dog, short story-1962.

Although Kim Lân's career of literature was not massive but it was very unique and hard to be mixed. Some of his works may be classified as the "Classic" in the Vietnamese literature in the XX century. Many reseachers have said that: "With only stories Vợ Nhặt/ Con chó xấu xí/ Làng, Kin Lân could be on the top of the Vietnamese writters.".
